Hockey Canada Summary of New Rules and Changes for the 2008 / 09 Hockey Season
1. Players not wearing a BNQ throat protector at any time on the ice will result in a team warning from the ref. Any player on the team that commits a subsequent infraction will receive a 10 minute Misconduct penalty
2. Linesmen can call penalties. A linesmen who sees an infraction for the following penalties will point out the offender to the referee at the first stoppage of play.(Head butting, pulling hair, butt ending, spearing, high stick, major, match, bench minor, misconduct, or Gross misconduct penalty.
3. DIVING: A minor penalty for Un-sportsmanlike Conduct shall be imposed on a player who attempts to draw a penalty by his/her actions (diving). This penalty may be assessed with or without a foul to the opposing team at the discretion of the referee.
4. FACEOFFS: Face offs shall take place only at designated face off spots on the ice. No team shall gain territorial advantage in a face off. Face offs shall take place at center ice, the 4 end zone circles, and the 4 dots in the neutral zone.
